Where our offcuts go [残った生地について]

What are offcuts?

Offcuts are the fabric pieces that are leftover after a garment has been cut. These pieces often get chucked out as these scraps are too small to be made into anything else.

We try our best to design our garments in a way to use up as much of this fabric as possible that would otherwise go straight to landfill. The Reversible Obi Top was actually designed as a way to use up more of our offcuts from our cult favourite style, The Puff Pant. Designed with long skinny straps, these pieces fit cosily between the larger pant pattern pieces. Knowing the origin story of this design, The Reversible Obi Top truly is the perfect matching top to our beloved Puff Pants.

We always aim to repurpose as much of our fabric offcuts as we can, using our scraps as internal pockets or our off cut matching accessories such as our Off Cut Key Chains, or Car Wheel Cover Sets. However, for the off cuts that are too small to be repurposed, we have partnered with Sydney based health company, Fitness Hero to use our excess offcuts as boxing bag filler.

What we do with our offcuts

To combat our textile wastage, we have partnered with Fitness Hero for just over 2 years now and we were finally lucky enough to come visit the Fitness Hero HQ and meet Mike and his lovely team in person!

After a site tour and chatting more about the in house processes behind stuffing the bags with our textile offcuts we got to get hands on and fill our own bag with all our own Itadaki offcuts!

Once our garments are cut, all our off cuts get sent straight from our cutters in Sydney to the Fitness Hero HQ where they then get mixed amongst other off cut fabrics such as lycra and fleece [to allow for a tighter compression in the bag]. They then get stuffed into the empty boxing bags and voila!

Stuffing the boxing bags with our scraps was actually a lot harder than we anticipated! A lot of brute force was involved.. We were told that sometimes they even get in the bag and stomp on the fabric like you would a barrel of wine grapes.

Such a special day meeting the Fitness Hero team! We feel so grateful that now we get to share this with you <3
